The founder of Innova Rx, Neal Howard, received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1973, from the University of Southern California. During a career that spanned 40 years, Dr. Howard served as a pharmacist in hospital, community and managed care environments.
The last 12 years of his active career were spent as a Drug Education Coordinator at Kaiser Fresno. Here he interacted directly with providers to deliver cost effective medication management for Kaiser members. He has lived in the Fresno area for the last 16 years with his wife Celeste De Monte, and their two cats, Ted and Luther.
The ultimate goal of Innova Rx is to help elderly patients manage their medications through the use of services delivered at a personal level. Innovative services including in-home visits, presence during physician/emergency room visits and coordination with local pharmacies to synchronize refills will be applied to reach these goals.
During his pharmacy career, Dr. Howard learned about gaps that exist in the current health care system which prevent patients from receiving a proper level of continuity of care. This is especially acute in the elderly population. Personal experience with his elderly in-laws during the latter stages of their lives, countless hours in emergency rooms and being at numerous, lengthy office visits, made him realize that families with elderly parents are at a distinct disadvantage attempting to navigate this dauntless system of care.
